GERRI expands: German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) joins as associated partner
The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), a subordinate to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), will be an important partner to the German raw materials research network GERRI.
BGR will support GERRI not only with its “hot wire to Berlin”, but also with geoscientific advice and technical infrastructure. The central authority holds expertise complementing the raw materials network’s with competences in the first phases of the value chain: „Exploration & Mining“, „Modeling“ and „Processing“.
GERRI is a joint network of to date five leading German universities and research institutions from the raw materials sector. It is their declared goal to strengthen German research activities for an international competition in raw materials technology and strategy. The partners’ national competences and infrastructure are registered in a unique data base accessible via the GERRI platform.
The network was founded in 2015 amongst the core partners Technical University (TU) for Resources Freiberg (TUBAF), RWTH Aachen University, TU Clausthal, Fraunhofer project group for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies (IWKS), and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).
