Iran’s aluminium production drops 11 % YoY during FY 2018-19

The Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported that Iran's major aluminium producers output stood at 301,033 t in the last Iranian year (ended March 20).

Aluminium production decreased 11 % year-on-year from 337,000 t. Iran’s flagship aluminium producer Iran Aluminum Company (IRALCO) accounted for 170,912 t of the total figure. Hormozal Aluminum Company contributed 77,326 t, a 27 % drop YOY. Almahdi Aluminum Company contributed 52,795 t, down 14 % YoY. Aluminium production during the month to March 20 dropped 42 % YOY to16,544 t. Iran has aluminium nameplate capacity of 457,000 t/a. Aluminium production is expected to reach 1.5 mill. t by 2025. Iran is likely to start a new aluminium smelter in 2019. South Aluminium Company (Salco) will boost the country’s production by 70 % and make it self-sufficient by taking advantage of rich natural gas reserves.
